Creche Management as a career
Creche Management is less about looking after children directly, but rather making sure that the creche itself runs smoothly. Making sure that you have the right staff, taking care of the daily needs for the facility, handling finances properly and making sure legal requirements are met by the creche. It can be a challenging environment to work in, but a rewarding one as you watch little ones growing in the space you create for them.
Creche Management as a career should be looked at from more of a business management perspective than a child care one. Understanding the requirements to take care of children in the correct way is important, however, you won’t be handling this aspect directly.
The Business of Creche Management
Starting a creche isn’t as simple as having a bunch of kids to look after and keeping them busy. There are a lot of things to consider when running a creche or daycare centre. If you can show that the business operates within regulation, and all of the staff have the correct training, you may be able to apply for private and government sector financial assistance.
In order to register a creche or daycare centre, you need to at least be able to show the following:
- a weekly food menu for your centre
- a daily programme for your centre
- a building plan of the location (if appropriate)
- a copy of the constitution of your business
- a business plan for funding purposes
- other documents required for your specific situation
Due to the rate of inflation and the difficulty in keeping up with the high cost of day to day living, the number of dual-income households is steadily increasing. This means that more and more families need good creche and daycare services to take care of their kids while they work. Even though there are almost 20 000 early childhood development centres across the country, many of them are not registered and do not meet government standards.
This has resulted in a great need for affordable, quality childcare to ensure the next generation of children have the best start possible.
